Toftemo Turiststasjon

With Gudbrandsdalslågen river meandering calmly by, Toftemo Turiststasjon has provided shelter for travelers since 1820. Today, Oda Landheim and her dedicated staff ensure a pleasant stay for visitors! Toftemo is located in scenic surroundings just off the E6 highway, north of Dovre city center. As a result, it is a natural stop for many, whether it is for energy replenishment or a longer stay. The tourist station has good capacity, including spacious premises for social gatherings and events. The unique Storstua has recently been refurbished and is a perfect location for your special occasion.

Hjerkinn Fjellstue & Fjellridning

In 900 BCE, King Eystein built a hostel at Dovrefjell. The journey along the King’s Road over the mountains was a difficult one, and providing shelter was necessary. It was a joy to arrive at such a hostel in the high mountains, especially during the winter and in bad weather. The mountain lodges over Dovrefjell are located in the same places to this day, and are remnants of a tradition that started 1200 years ago. This traditional lodge is run by the 12th, 13th and 14th generations. Hjerkinn Fjellstue is the oldest mountain lodge in Norway that has been in continuous operation, and the Hjerkind family proudly welcomes travelers from near and far. Hjerkinn Fjellstue and Fjellridning offers guided horseback riding on sturdy Icelandic horses during the summer months. In addition, it is the only place in the country (probably the world) where you can experience a musk ox safari on horseback! The annex was renovated a few years ago and has modern, self-catering apartments. Hjerkinn Fjellstue is in full operation and constantly evolving. It has an active farm and stables, and the place is bustling with life during the summer.

From Grimsdalshytta, you have an incredible view of Rondane with its majestic peaks. The peaceful farmyard, surrounded by old cultural buildings, invites you to relax and fully experience Grimsdalen. You’ll get a real break from the outside world here, as there is no mobile coverage…
Grimsdalshytta is a Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) cabin. The hosts serve homemade meals made from local ingredients—perfect dishes to refuel after your mountain adventures! Or how about a stone‑oven baked pizza? Ideal for lunch!
The cabin celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023, but today’s shelter is far from the original building. The latest project was completed in 2008, when a beautiful new main building was added alongside the old cultural buildings in Grimsdalen.
